Up to now I have been able to get on site with a green labourers card can I still do that?

Yes if you are a labourer that is fine but in order to renew it you will need to complete an approved 1 day course in health & safety and have passed the Health Safety & Environment touch screen test within the last 2 years.

I need a CSCS card in my trade to work on site, but I have been told that I must do a VQ to get it, what do I have to do?

You will need to register for a VQ in your chosen trade – We can help you with that.

I have worked in my trade all my life, why do I suddenly have to do an VQ?

The construction industry is working towards proving that the workforce is competent this will help to make the industry a safer place to work.

How do I know which level of VQ I need to take?

That depends on your level of experience, we will work with you to determine your current level of experience and we will advise you accordingly.

How long will it take to complete?

It can take 6 to 9 months to complete.

Will it involve sitting in a classroom and re training?

No we can carry out your assessment on site whilst you are carrying out your daily activities and working as normal.

What will I have to do?

Firstly, we will go through the VQ process with you and carry out an induction so that you are clear what is expected of you. Your assessor will then need to observe you working and take photographs. You will also need to obtain relevant paperwork from site to prove that you are working safely.

Can I get a CSCS card any sooner?

Yes once you have registered for your VQ you can apply to the CSCS for a provisional RED card in your trade. You must also have passed the CITB Health Safety & Environment touch screen test within the last 2 years.

How long will this last for?

It will only last for 12 months and cannot be renewed, you must complete your VQ within the 12 months to get a competence card in your trade.
